Elizabeth C-1 General Facts:
The Elizabeth Schools are comprised of seven school buildings including (2) pre-schools (2) elementary schools, (1) middle school, (1) high school, (1) alternative high school, and (1) charter school. The Elizabeth School Board is comprised of five Board Members who are highly committed to the following priorities:
• High Expectations for Student Learning
• Focus on the Future
• Safe and Secure Learning Environment
Accountability/Accreditation: The District Accreditation Plan has been approved by the Colorado Department of Education. It provides the basis for district and school improvement efforts, especially toward improving student achievement. A District Accountability Committee meets monthly to review the compliance and progress of schools in their improvement efforts, and makes recommendations to the Board of Education. Each school has its own advisory accountability committee consisting of parents, community members, staff and administration.
School Board Meetings: The Elizabeth School Board Meetings are held at the Administration Office, 634 S. Elbert Street, at 7:00 p.m. For specific meeting dates and agenda items, please go to "Board Meetings" under "School Board", or call (303) 303-646-1836.
Community Involvement: Community involvement in the Elizabeth School District is highly valued. Accountability Committee Meetings are held monthly in each school building. These committees plan ways to improve schools and also serve as an advisory group to the Principal.
Special Education: A full array of services is available for students with disabilities from ages 3-21. Approximately 10% of the students in our schools qualify for these services. Child Find screening and assessment are available for students 3-21.
Gifted/Talented: The Elizabeth School District Gifted Education Program will provide challenging extended opportunities for learning and growth to all students who have been identified as gifted through a rigorous, standardized process.
English as a Second Language: This is a small and growing program. Students are tutored based on results of the Colorado English Language Assessment.
Preschoolers with Special Needs: Preschoolers who qualify for special education or at-risk services receive free appropriate services.
Library Resources: Each school's library offers curriculum related materials as well as items to support individual interests. Print resources are augmented by a selection of online subscription resources.
Food Service: In 2005-2006, the Elizabeth Food Service Department prepared and served 320,566 hot lunches K-12, an average of 1,931 lunches per day.
Transportation: A fleet of 36 buses, 5 small vehicles and 11 district support vehicles are maintained on site. Staff: 1 Director, 1 Coordinator, 1 Shop Foreman, 1 Mechanic, 1 Trainer and 28 Drivers. The dedication for these funds is broken down as follows: Instruction 69.7%; Instructional Support 5.2%; Superintendent’s Office and Board of Education 3%; Business Services 4.2% Facilities/Maintenance 4.4%; Transportation 5.5%; Technology Services 1.5%; Community Services 3.3%; and Transfers to Other Funds 3.2%.
Curriculum/Assessment:
Curriculum: The Elizabeth School District has developed and adopted curriculum standards for all K-12 core academic areas (language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies). District standards have also been developed for all of the “specials” subjects in the district: art, physical education, music, foreign languages, theater, consumer/family studies, vocational education, educational technology and information literacy. All curricular areas are aligned with state and/or national standards.
Assessment: The Elizabeth School District employs a variety of assessments to provide us with a “body of evidence” on each student. Assessment results are used for reporting of school and district performance as accountability measures to our parents and general public.
The Colorado Student Assessment Program (CSAP) is required by state law and constitutes the core of our assessment program. The District has regularly outperformed statewide totals in most areas of the CSAP, and demonstrates comparable results to neighboring districts and others with similar demographics.
The District also administers the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) in grades three through ten in the areas of Reading, Language Usage and Mathematics. MAP is a computerized adaptive test, which dynamically adjusts in difficulty as the student takes the test. MAP is administered in the fall, winter and spring and is used primarily by the District to measure student growth over time. When compared to a national norming group of over one million students and more than 750 school districts, the students in the Elizabeth School District perform favorably.
The Elizabeth School District also uses the ACT family of assessments. These include the ACT, which at this time is required of all Juniors (11th graders) throughout the state of Colorado. The PLAN-ACT is administered to all tenth graders. The PLAN and ACT provide very useful information about student achievement relative to other students nationally, as well as assisting with course and career planning. Students in the Elizabeth School District have consistently, over the past six years, performed higher than state and national averages on each of these assessments.
